Not really, just search. Maybe Tom's Hardware, but mobos change so often it's not really worth it.
Ventilation? As much as it takes to keep the cpu cool.![]()
Hey, ok joined a while back, just been surfing the site reading and stuff. Finally decided to build my own carputer instead of getting one of those premade ones. its going into a 89 Integra. Due to space restristions i'll probally make a custome case......anyway.
My first problem. The Motherboard.
is there any site that simple lists each feature of the via motherboard side by side? so you just keep eleminating the oenes you want and are left with the ones that will suit your purpose?
Also how much ventaliation is required for the motherboard?

yeah well i'm pretty much settled on the MII 12K. But really not sure if i need the extra features? if not the the M10K would do and save a bundle!
Tomshardware had an article from 2003.....good comparison but rather old.
The ventelation is cause its a custom case, would i need an exhurst fan? I'll probally end up with the PSU seperate so shoud reduce heat by a bit.
Also what sort of clearance should ther be between the cpu fan and the top of the case?
As for cooling/ventilation....
On the 3 carPC's I have had, Cross ventalation I have found to be the best.
It keeps the whole board and cpu cool. Basically have a sealed box with a vent on one side and a fan or two on the other blowing out.
The vent draws air via suction from the fan, flows across motherboard and out fans, have the fans blowing out so now dirt/dust/etc gets blown onto your board. Check out the picture ive included.....good luck

Most people get the MII 12000 for the additiona clock speed, not the feature set.Originally Posted by thebranded

Maybe, maybe not. I'd put one in just to be on the safe side. The ventelation is cause its a custom case, would i need an exhurst fan? I'll probally end up with the PSU seperate so shoud reduce heat by a bit.
I've been using the MII12000 for over a year, very satisfied, but I don't do anything much more than play mp3s currently.
great board, I went with it for the PCMCIA card slot
I'll recomend it!

They have a "motherboard matrix" comparison chart on Logicsupply.com. The link is on the right side of the page. I used that to compare several motherboards I was interested in.Originally Posted by thebranded
wow...they no longer have logicsupply.com edited as a bad word?!
though, it doesn't auto fill to a link....lol

No, I didn't want to set it up as a direct link for obvious(or non-obvious) reasons. And notice how I didn't say I BOUGHT from them, just that I used their comparison chart.Originally Posted by Red GTi VR6

sweet excellent link! just what i want!Originally Posted by Lurieh
thx Sidewalksalvage, thats pretty much the desigh i was going for, though i might end up with more side vents as opposed to top vents. The top will be close to flush with ...umm...some plastic moulding or something (part of car)
so thow much clearance do you noramlly have from the cpu fan to the top of the case? I'm trying to fit the whole thing in a single din case. (less PSU)
