Thread: Connecting laptop to indash dvd player

Wha sup!? Welcome to MP3Car, Unfortunately hooking up your laptop to that kenwood screen isnt going to be all you think it is. Due to the fact that the kenwood isnt a VGA screen its a composite. You could use a scan converter but the font and over all picture from the laptop would suck balls (just being honest), another way you could use it is if you had a VGA screen and used the kenwood for the aux input for the laptop but using it to view anything off the laptop wouldnt be the best way to go, try searching for a VGA screen, insted of the kenwood. I have a Motorized In dash VGA in my car and it works like a charm , execpt i must admit that at times when im using a external DVD player and watching a movie or something, during the day its kinda hard to view, but when I use my carputer It is decent around day time and is very bright at night time....Good luck!

How expensive are VGA screens? Do they come in double din sizes that will mount flush in my dash?

well prices on VGA screens arent all expensive it just depends on what size, what brand, etc. I have not heard of or seen any double din VGA monitors but If you search this place many have used 7 inch VGA monitors and just modded there dash a bit. Look for VGA monitors in the mp3car store as well as ebay. You could even find a great price on one in the FS/FT part of the forums...like I said you would have to search

What exactly do I need to connect the Toshiba Satellite laptop to the kenwood DDX-7017? When the screen was shattered, we were not able to connect it to any external monitor. Do I just have to cut the wires that connect the main part of the monitor to the screen? And then solder those to some type of extension? What type of connector do I use to connect the laptop and in dash kenwood dvd player? Will the touchscreen functions still work with the laptop?

the touchscreen bottons might work but im not to sure prolly have to do some modding as for hooking the kenwood up for a monitor to ur laptop like i said b4 it would suck balls, and would be hardly readable, but you could use a scan converter....search around for that a SCAN CONVERTER...check ebay, here, google....just , and you'll find it. Actually i got one but i dont have the power supply for it, it needs a 9v power supply, you shouldnt need anything else cept maybe a vga to vga cord...got it from greenman100 on here in the FS/FT section
