Acura CL Bose System, change Speakers?

    Hello,
I'm new to the site and thanks for checking this post out.
I used to do a lot of car stereo but working with this Bose stereo is new, you will see once you read more.

I have a 2001 CL Type-S that I bought used. The guy changed the rear speakers to some crappy 6x9's and the sound is all screwed up. There is little to no bass and its not clear like a Bose systems should be. I want to keep the factory stereo in the car due to theft issues, i know i could do better, but bear with me.
I went to get 6x9's at circuit city and they said that the ohm load on a Bose system is goofy like 1 or 10 ohms and that aftermarket speakers wouldn't work. This sounds like a bunch of BS but I cannot find some stock acura speakers from someone to put in. So I'm back to looking into the aftermarket area.
    So:

1- can the bose amp run regular 4 ohm 6x9 speakers with an 92-93 db sensitivity?

2-if not I'm pretty much stuck with finding some stock acura speakers right?

3-lastly but not preferred. I HEARD there is a way to rip out the Bose amp, throw in a aftermarket one with an adaptor for the rca input and speaker wires. Is this true?? This way i could use any 6x9's and keep the fronts stock and maintain the appearance of a factory system.

    Thanks Guys for the help/advice!

BWAHAHA....don't kid yourself. Blose blows. anyway, with that being said, you should know that the bose system is easily removable in that you can buy a pigtail that will join the harnii that go in and out of the amp so you can install an aftermarket deck. In previous years the bose systems used 3ohm speakers making them incompatible with most aftermarket stuff. But recently they have switched to 4ohm/8ohm setups meaning you can use them with standard amps. my 972.2cl had 4ohm speakers in it and i used them for a while before upgrading. If you are planning to install a carputer or a halfway decent car stereo i would highly recommend ditching the bose setup alltogether. Just make sure you hang on to all the parts so you can reinstall it when you sell the car.

Thanks for the input man. I'm trying to keep the factory HU in order to not draw attention to the car and reduce the chance of break in.

So there is a harness that will take the connections into the BOSE amp and allow me to wire up an aftermarket amp? I think you were talking about getting a harness to replace the HU, which I don't want to do.

    Thanks Again

The quote "No highs, no lows, gotta be Bose" comes to mind.

I ended up re-wiring the speakers.

The stock speakers are some wierd 1/2 ohm POS.

I replaced the rear 6x9's but left the front stock ones and it sounds decent.

That's the info I'm looking for, Thanks!
So I can run aftermarket 6x9's in the rear and leave the fronts all on the Bose amp!
Thanks for the info, thought I would ask before blowing 100 bucks on speakers.

Here is a wiring diagram for your '01 Acura CL-S.

    2001AcuraCL-Sradio.pdf

I don't think you'll be able to find any harness adapters for the connections at the amplifier, but you can certainly solder or crimp onto those wires directly if you know the wire colors (provided in the wiring diagram).
I would probably buy some decent speakers for the back and see how they sound with the stock system, and then think about replacing the bose amplifier if necessary.

    Good Luck.
