    question!!!

This had probably been asked over and over again but I can't seem to find anything. Can you get rid of the hu all in one...and not use a hu at all? maybe maybe not? and if I can't can I use my stock monsoon amp/hu in my 99 camaro?

Angry You really need to search...

This question has been answered a thousand times and is still one of the major questions in the n00b section. Yes you can get rid of you HU all together, or you can keep it and use the aux inputs for the computer. Having a HU is beneficial if you like radio (not satellite), because pc radio is complete crap compared to even a cheap HU. Also HU boot up is 1-2secs and a PC is like 20-40secs depending on config. If you are taking a trip like 1 minute down the road, not even worth it to turn on the PC. If you keep a stock HU, then you will have either no display, or a display that is goosenecked making it really obvious. The stock amp and everything will work. If you go all PC, then you most definately need an amp.

Really dude, comon. Search. If you look for like 1 minute in the n00b section (even in the stickies) you will answer all these questions....

Well, you found the FAQ Emporium, but didn't see the post on how to do this. DJiK's link is the one you want. You should also search using terms "Monsoon".

In addition, you will generate more looks and answers if you use a descriptive thread title. For example:
"Is it possible to get rid of the Head Unit?"

I dont know much about the monsoon amp in the vw but the infiniti has boss and the way i riged it was. i took a rca cable with a head phone jack at one end and cut the rca leads off and splices them into the lines going to the amp left to left front to front and so on. use the opus remote cable and pluged that into the remote cable for the amp and it all work just fine and sound pretty good

Here is a wiring diagram for your '99 Camaro.

I didn't see a remote turn-on wire that went from the head unit to the monsoon amplifier so I think you might need to use a solution like the VW folks (turn on signal over one of the audio wires). Take a look at the VW Monsoon FAQ:

    Hope this helps.
