If this happens in about the same timeframe I would suspect it is heat related.
Check your fans and CPU heat sink.
suddenly, I am faced with random shut downs on my carputer. it was working fine for about two months, but without changing anything all of the sudden the computer will shut down or restart within 10 minutes of starting it. i have tried not loading certain apps, etc. what are some things I should try to do to eliminate possible causes?

Also your power supply. In my computer it kept on restarting because there was not enough power. Have you added anything to your system recently?
Compaq Evo D510 e-PC - P4 2.0 - 512M RAM - 120G 3.5 HD - 7" Xenarc 700TSV - DSATX fitted nicely inside the PC case
No changes whatsoever. it has been getting warmer though, so i will definately look at the fans. do the epia m1k's have temp sensors anywhere?
It seems like the problem is not the temperature. After closer examination, I blieve it is restarting every 10-20 minutes, randomly. For example, this morning it was about 40 degrees and after about 4 minutes of driving (car definately not warmed up), the computer restarted. could this be a grounding issue? what else should I explore??
OK, but did you che to see if the fans are spinning and not blocked?
Some times fans fail.

Fans are all in great shape. I also had the case opened up while it was running to see how things were going, and it shut down (all fans moving, and I couldn't find heat anywhere)
Right, sounds like it is not heat.
Check for loose conections: wires, ram... anything

Double checked everything. it ran for about an hour the other day, which was great. but its back to its oldself, as it ran for about 10 minutes today before rebooting. also, it now has a hard time booting from hibernation or standby. it is succesfull maybe 2/3 times.
I think I fixed the problem. When I was checking the ground, it looked like it disconnecting a bit from the floor. I believe this caused a short and explains it sort of randomly shutting down. I also noticed the fuse was damaged, but not completely broken. After replacing the fuse and rewiring the ground, I haven't had any problems. I have, however, noticed a new problem which I will address in a different post! Thanks for your help.
