I bought a aopen pandora Dual core minipc and after reading a ton of posts on here about a simular one I noticed my model was different they were talking about the single core I guess but now I am worried I got the wrong one and that I am going to have problems with this one and I ran a search on here for the dual core model and nobody said anything about it. the specs are:

2.0Ghz Core Duo dual core ****************

that is what I am thinking about getting for my bare bones pandora dual core am I over doing it or not and where could I get compatable parts for this model as the place I bought the dual core pandora is pretty expensive as far as there other parts for it.

As long as you can power it.... you sould be fine.

Look at the power requirements by rail ( 12, 5, 3) and make sure youe power solution can cope.

Note: you will get faster resumes from hibernate with 512 mb ram instead of the 1gig.

Yes, you should search... and Yes, It has been covered before!

That's nice, I am not interested in reading the specs and telling you the answer.

That is something you need to do.

I have given you the information you need to go look. After you do that post any actual questions you might have.

If you want a carPC, it involves doing some work and some learning.

the dual cores are pretty new, most here aren't going to have enough experience with them to know how much amperage they use... this is the main thing you need to research,... then search for power calculator & see where you stand after putting all your equiptment in to a power calculator..

as far as it being overkill, yes it is, but theres nothing necissarily wrong with overkill unless it's trading off something else that's more important in the application... in your case both power draw & heat are your 2 main concerns... if these 2 things don't make it impractical then go for it

out of that lot I would go for the smallest processor as it will be plenty fast enough for a car unless your going to play games in it. Go for the gig of ram, I dont know why less ram would make it hibernate quicker as if it isnt in ram its in a page file and will have to be re-writen to the hibernate files. Am not saying your wrong Truckin just saying I dont understand. Either way your PC will run faster with more ram specially if your going to use GPS. As for hard drive its really up to you and how much stuff your going to put on it. Personally I can never have too much storage but partition the drive up as it makes things faster and also means you loose less if something screws up.

thank you guys for your input as I have n o clue as to what im doing and never opened up a computer to change anything except the floppy to dvd drive on my dell laptop I am willing to learn as always. but I know this is what I would like in my car or I would just buy a eclipse touchscreen and add gps and sat tv and all the bells and whistles. Yes I probably am in way over my head and I am probably going to ask the stupidest questions and annoy everyone with them but I do not know much about computers heck I learned 3 days ago how to edit my logon and boot screen on my laptop. sorry But I do want this pandora in my stang I dont want to way overkill it but I dont want to underrate is either then end up buying another one in 4 months. I mean I dont know alot about this at all as I pretty much race cars, motorcycles and customize them for shows. I work as a paramedic/firefighter so there is my area of expertise. heck I still cant type worth a s**t either.

If you don't know what you're doing, then I suggest you stop, take a deep breath, and do some reading about the aspects of the vehicle PC that you're unclear on.

There is much to be learned, young padawan.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

okay well i can tell you this much it shouldnt draw anymore power than what the brick that comes with the computer states it draws which should be no more than 19amps plus heat yet this thing gets hot i have 20 of them sitting in a drawer at work for evaluations at intel. they get hot but they have speedstep so dont worry about it and 90% of the time the heatsink is cool to the touch its the hdd that heats things up that and the dvdrw drive doesnt help as well. this device will be VIIV compliant within a month or so i am already running VIIV on it right now i am actually installing this in my car and i have a freind that has already done it granted his is all sorts of rigged up but it works great.
