I'm planning my first Car PC installation

I have been reading and reading and reading for months and now am planning on my first Car PC install in my 04 Navigator. I've attached a listing of what I would like to install and would appreciate any comments on my proposed setup and the components I've chosen. If there is any particular component that I should stay away from please let me know. I'm undecided on the sound card to use and am still trying to convince the wife that I'll likely need a separate sub enclosure. Thanks for all the insight and great reading I've enjoyed so far.

Would suggest you format your text for the forum so people don't have to view a PDF. Many will probably just skip it (I didn't). It would also make it easier for people to comment on certain aspects of your design as they can quote portions of it in their replies.

Hey, looks like a good plan, the only thing I am wondering about is why Ampie? I was going to go with Ampie myself but had to change my mind and go with Morex case because I couldn't fit mx2 160W PSU in Ampie. And no doubt 160W is better than older PSU with less W, who knows what I might decide to add tomorrow.

Like you, I did tons of reading couple of past months and realised it's an overwhelming amounts so what I decided to do is to break it down into steps. Get hardware first and go from there. I actually just ordered hardware yesterday here's my list (http://www.brainsights.com/wrxtear/carputer/)

As far as OS I personally decided to partition hard drive into two, install dual boot Windows and Linux and decide which one suits me best.

Timeshifter - I've pasted the info into my post (thanks for the advice)

f1vlad - No particular reason for choosing the AMPIE. You make a good point and I may go with a different case like you did. I'd like like to order the parts in the next week or so.

    Here is my planned set-up.

PC - MP3Car Custom Car Computer (Ampie) VIA EPIA SP13000, 512MB RAM, 100GB Hard Drive

Front End - Road Runner running on Windows XP

Monitor - Undecided - Needs to fit 2004 Lincoln Navigator Double DIN space. Possibly a Xenarc 700TSV installed in a headrest shroud so it will fit cleanly into the opening.

Stereo Sound Card - Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic PCI Sound Card OR Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Amps - Rockford Fosgate or Infinity 4-Channel Amplifier AND mono Amplifier. I'll see what is available locally.

Speakers - Infinity (Kappa or Reference) components (6x8) for front row and coaxial (6x8) for second row

Subwoofer - 10" sub (Wife wants to replace factory sub in back panel instead of adding a separate box). I'm not convinced that this will work well.

AM/FM tuner - For local station coverage.

Navigation Software - Iguidance or Destinator

CD/DVD - I want to add a CD/DVD player accessible from driver seat. Might go with an all-in-one unit video screen/CD/DVD player instead of a XENARC monitor. Suggestions?

Sat Receiver - Sirius Connect SIR-ALP1
Interface - Sirius to PC RS232 Interface with Digital Optical Out

Rear Seat Video - 2 Headrest DVD players or monitors with wireless headphones. Possibly going to install a second PC to stream different DIVX movies to 2 headrests simultaneously. Still thinking about this one.

I believe that M2-ATX PSU fits in the Ampie just fine.
