A receiver is a receiver is a receiver.
Audio goes in. In your case, video goes in as well.

Your image display will vary from mediocre at best to fuzzy to the point of unreadable because of the TV-in that sucks displaying a PC display. The touchscreen won't control the PC, so give up on that. The DVD player won't be used with the PC, so give up on that, too.

To answer your question, yes it has been done before.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Keep it, don't listen to anyone else. Its YOUR opinion that counts, who knows, maybe it'll be a good learning tool. Get the PC in, then decide if you want to sell it.

I've done exactly this and the picture is fine, it's not as good as VGA obviously but Media Engine is perfectly usable, make sure you use good quality cabling
