One PC, 2 different video outputs?

*EDIT: Below is a classic example of something I have allready done at home (1 AGP vid card to monitor #1, 1 PCI video card to monitor #2) but for some reason failed to make the link to a in-car application; probably due to 1)in-car I am thinking of using a laptop and 2) the simple fact it's in a car. Duh.

    Everyone,

    Scenario:
You want to keep your GPS (or anything else) up on display #1, while at the same time watch a DVD (or anything else) up on display #2. Sound I imagine is a whole other ball of wax.

    Question:
Is this a function of both the OS and HW (i.e. 2 different video cards) and selecting which signal goes to which output?

I suspect that it is, but imagine the front-end must come into the equation somewhere.

Thanks for reading and posting your thoughts.

I think some of the VIA boards will put the GPS or programs out on the vga port and video out the svideo. You could also do it with a duel head graphics card just do one on one desktop and the other on the second.

Well, you can have a dual-output video card, or two video cards. Extend the desktop in XP, and some front ends (like CF) will do what you're asking for you. Otherwise simply 'arrange' the programs on the monitors you want, and that's how it shows.

i dunno what you're running but my IBM R51 does that through the extrenal VGA and S-vid. Also, if you really require two outputs, consider a docking station such as the EV1000. You'll need a PCMCIA card reader for that, but it gives you an ATI PCI card that is good enough for DVD playback with the options of mirroring or dual display. I have one of those as well, works great!
