for a carputer, no
Hi, new to this forum and have been searching recently but couldnt find info on the following question:
Will this product (Kenwood KVT-627DVD) work with a carputer, xbox/ps2. As this kenwood system was already in the car when i borught it, i was wondering if there is any way of connecting it so that a pc can be inputted. When going through the "source" button, it goes through the options of the various play methods - DVD, Tuner, Navigation and Standby.
Here is a link to spec of the system:

Ok, without getting the navigation unit, is there any cheaper alternatives of having sat nav via the screen and also having a hard disk for mp3 and movies?
Technically it could work. But your pc would need to an composite video output, and you would need to mod the screen to make it a touch screen or get a keyboard/mouse solution. I believe either of these would give you a degraded video quality. If you just want to play mp3's...just get a DAP. If you want a pc, It'd be much easier to just sell that thing on ebay and start over... speaking as a fellow fellow newbie
Why would i need to mod the screen, it already is a touchscreen. I really like the system already set up the way it is. Are there any pc's with a composite video output?
Ummm, all you need is a video card with composite out, not hard to find, the problem then is, how do you control the car pc. There is no way to connect the units touch screen to your computer, so you will need a mouse and keyboard.Originally Posted by rumz
The question then is, why are you adding a computer, if the unit does everything you want?

the touchscreen could be modified to work with the pc display... it's not an easy thing to do at all though, & not really even worth doing because a scan converted composite pc image will be pretty bad... images & videos will look ok, but text & most windows stuff will be blurry & fuzzy & not good at all really.... that's the reason to use a vga screen...
