Here's a link to a beginner's FAQ that will help you out with every question you have, with the possible exception of the radio question.
The general consensus is that the radio solutions for PC don't work well in a car. Some members here developed a solution for AM/FM radio in teh vehicle that's superior to any other commercial offerings, but it's new and has limited software support as of now.
Search the forums for HQCT Radio and you'll be able to read all about it.

If it is taking that long you have issues. I am running a laptop that is barely over 1gig for the processor (512 ram), and it is way less than a min to boot. I would wipe the laptop clean and rebuild it.

probably you have spyware, malware, pornware, junkware ... you name it.
My Supra setup (P3 600) boot up to music in 30-35 seconds.

Just win xp pro with sp2, no extras. I don't even think I have an anti virus on it at this point, but it never sees the net.

my scooby boots up in 17 seconds.... from off to on... and about 11 seconds from hibernation to running


once again, a subaru burns a supra. ^^

my boot up is so fast beacuse i used several programs like Nlite and Tweakui and such, which take off random crap (who needs indexing on a carpc) from booting up. then frodoplayer, wifi, and drivers are the only thing that boots up at start. (i use a batch file to launch my gps and such 15 seconds after... so i get to my music faster

and I'm still searching for ways to make it faster...I think hardware is the only place left to go...lol

thats pretty slow red gti... lol i think mine comes up in about 25 seconds and i have mine shut down fully and reboot fully. im running full windows xp pro....

go search on club rsx for my install, actually i think my install is somewhere on this site. lol..
