Hey guys... I was looking around to see what kinda tft monitors they had for sale on ebay and ran across these TFT screens already built into Universal headrests that have adjustable poles to fit most cars... I would need it to fit a 2002 Altima... What do you guys think? Good or no good? and why? I'm newb so please any feedback would be apprecaited... Thanks in advance!

where are you mounting it? if it is for a headrest and the specs are good, go for it i guess. We need info on where you want to mount it, what you want to connect to it, etc. to provide more info.

Try a search for altima and see what other owners have done for ideas. Do a lot of reading. Someone will pop in after me with a link to a newbie FAQ that is very helpful as well...

    Good luck and have fun!

Its a headrest screen, meaning its already been mounted in the headrest. Thats the whole point.

It really depends on the video source for the screens. If you're going to play DVDs from a standalone player or play console games, they will bne just fine.
For PC video, the output will range from marginal to absolutely horrible. PC video doesn't do well on a TV, as the resolution of a TV is so low compared to a PC.

Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

    Let me clarify...

Sorry guys let me give you some more info...

What I'm planning on doing is installing a PC in the trunk of my car. I want to have TV's in the headrests as well as one in the front console (Most likely a bigger touchscreen... Seen alti's 10.4" and it has me itching to get one... I also will want to add a Xbox and PS2 in to the mix eventually. I'm not sure what type of connectors the headrest monitors have but the reason I was asking is it will save me from having to fabricate my own headrests.... Let alone mutilate my headrests trying to get a monitor inside it... How would you guys recommend I go about this? Should I go to the junk yard and grab some headrests if I could find some and start hackin em up? or should I just take the easy way and buy headrests with TV's already in em? And what should I be most concerned about when getting these TV's since they will be giving picture off my computer in the trunk? Lastly... If my computer only has one VGA port to connect to, I see people talking about VGA on all monitors... How would I go about connecting 4 or 5 Screens with VGA connections?

Wow... Sorry guys didn't mean for that to end up so long... But I really appreciate the help hopefully that will give a clearer picture of what I'm trying to do. Thanks in Advance!

Thanks Red GTI, I had seen this post earlier to be honest... This was the post that actually got me here The problem is that I'm not that proficient with fabrications (I've never fabricated anything for a car yet) and I would hate to destroy my leather headrests... that was why I asked if these TFT monitors in pre-assembled headrests were worth it... figure I might save myself from having to buy new stock headrests ...lol... Apprecaite the help though! Just not sure if they would be good to go with a Carputer...

well, since you asked about fabricating in your second to last post, that's why I linked to it.

if that's not what you're interested in doing, why say you're interested in doing it?

Sorry... I must have been unclear... I am open to fabrication, although I would like to avoid it if possible... I just don't want to buy the TFT monitors that come with the universal headrests and find that the video quality will be really lacking... So if people feel those Monitors aren't worth the purchase I will be looking to purchase new headrests that I could start trying to install monitors into... So that I don't leave my car headrestless... haha... Again thanks for the help Red...

I just spent $400 at my local car audio store on a set of "pixelon" headrests with 7" TFT monitors built in and they look great. I haven't checked the video quality yet, but they're just for my passengers so I don't care that much. If I weren't so lazy, I would probably get some headrests off of ebay and buy some cheap LCDs (there were some super cheap ones on overstock.com a little while ago, like $150 for both). Installation looks really easy. Just cut an "X" in the back of the headrest, cut out some foam, and shove 'em in. The only reason why I didn't use the stock headrests was because they were too narrow in the back, and couldn't even hold a 5" LCD. If you want to have the best result, get some headrest monitors with VGA inputs and install them in your stock headrests. That would be the most professional looking, and it would also be the best video quality when hooked up to the computer.

    Good Luck!
