    Its time to start...

Ok, ive been folling this site for years now and have finally gotten to the point where I dont want the laptop in the car on a stand anymore. Here is a picture of my dash, just wanted to get some expert opinions on where to put a screen and what time of screen to use.

What is under that grill up at the top of that picture (over the vents)?

That is exactly what I was thinking. Just build an enclosure with the same dimensions as the screen. That way you can slip it right in there and you will be good to go. Unless that is you want to move the air vents and all the dials :P

Here is a shot with the vent removed. I'll have to look at the dimensions to seen what the widest screen I can fit in there is. Also, I have spent some time looking at the various front ends this site has to offer. I already have streets and trips 2006 from my laptop, is Road Runner the best front end to use with that? Or is there another front end available that works with it?

Once you have the dimension I would do a little sketch in Google SketchUp that way you can see how it will look and all that jazz. Plus it looks really awesome. I would be tempted to continue with the same dash line for the new screen so that it looks stock.

I measured the opening of the pocket. To be flush with the top of the dash for that factory look I would only be able to use 2 3/4" from the bottom of the opening to the top of the dash. That would be a really small screen. at its widest point 7 3/4". So I am definately going to have to go ablove the dash line.
