Hey.
As you can tell I am new here but I am very excited. I've been pondering the idea of doing a carputer (I am already a car audio guy), so this should go hand in hand. I've already got a good sound system going on (Eclipse 7000 HU/Kicker 7005 Amp and a Kicker 10 inch L5 in a custom box) and the carputer would be the final touch. I just had a few questions about a possible carputer I am about to build.
My main focus is a completely functioning carputer that will do mp3s, videos, bluetooth and GPS (i think i'll be using the road runner front end) but keeping everything "wallet friendly". So far after bargain hunting i've found theses prices. Let me know what you think and any suggestions. Thanks.

I know I'm missing a power supply and the accessories for GPS and bluetooth but the main thing I'm trying to figure out is if this is all i need for a base system and if its compatible. Thanks in advance everyone.

I don't think that mobo is near powerful enough for video. and I would venture to guess that it could only handle MP3s OR GPS, but not at the same time. What do you think Darque?

I'd say you're probably right on track Red, but then again, you didn't ask me...
I think the 600mhz Via has an mpeg-II decoder built in, but only good for DVDs. Not all that great for anything else, esp for extremely compressed formats like divx.
I love PQI memory, but never threw one into an EPIA board. I'd say you're pretty safe though, I have yet to find a system that PQI turbo mem won't work in.
What mobo would you guys suggest? What about this one? Via Epia-M 1GHz Mini-ITX Motherboard?
that's one of the most commonly used boards right now.
I'd think it would be a pretty good step up from that 600MHz board.

Anybody know where I can find a cheap case? I think 85 is a little much considering i paid 20 bucks for my casing for my regular computer.
keep in mind, you are in a very small world right now. There are few manufactures out there for CarPC cases compared to Desktop or tower PC cases.
Not to mention, most CarPC cases are MUCH more ruggid than your $20 PC case you have sitting on the floor at home.
The CarPC case has to put up with a LOT more in terms of environmental factors.
