    1996 Jeep Cherokee Install

i have searched this forum and only found 1 or two jeep cherokee installs for my year. my questions are:

    1) can i buy a dash that already has the housing and cutout for the monitor in the dash, or do i have to make my dash custom myself?

    2) Can i completly take out the vent in the center of my dash and move the controls up, that way giving me more room?

    3) If i put a 7in screen in my dash, will i still be able to have a headunit? or would you recommend that i get a indash flip out headunit with a video input, so i can just have the video feed from the computer going to the screen?

    4) would you recommend that i buy a case for the computer itself, or can i make my own custom one?

    5) can someone give me a link on how to hook up exactly what i need to the case that i build or buy. i already have the parts from another computer, i am just going to make or buy a more compact case.

6)what kind of power inverter do you recommend i use? and the wattage?

    7) would it be more thoughtful if i add a second battery in the trunk to power the computer, and amps of my system, or would i be good on just one battery?

**i know its alot of questions, but i am seriously considering this now that i have seen how good it can come out**

i know the first thing you guys are going to say is the search button is your friend, but i need fast answers, along with me searching i should be able to get them faster.

Thanks for the answers and feedback guys,

    Coty

Waiting three hours before bumping isn't going to net much favor.
    Be patient.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

You're asking if there is a dash for your car that was already made for a monitor? I highly doubt it.

    2) Can i completly take out the vent in the center of my dash and move the controls up, that way giving me more room?
I don't know, can you? Why don't you remove the dash and check? Would give you some good insight into what's back there that you will run into when you start the install anyways.

    3) If i put a 7in screen in my dash, will i still be able to have a headunit? or would you recommend that i get a indash flip out headunit with a video input, so i can just have the video feed from the computer going to the screen?
Again, I don't know, will you? That's something you will have to figure out by taking your own measurements and checking. Look up the measurements for the screen and the HU and see what kind of room you have.

    4) would you recommend that i buy a case for the computer itself, or can i make my own custom one?
There have been a dozen threads about this...

start here: Buy Case Or Build Case

    5) can someone give me a link on how to hook up exactly what i need to the case that i build or buy. i already have the parts from another computer, i am just going to make or buy a more compact case.
before you go any further: New to CarPCs? Don't know where to start?

6)what kind of power inverter do you recommend i use? and the wattage?
Again, see this thread, your questions are answerd here: New to CarPCs? Don't know where to start?

    7) would it be more thoughtful if i add a second battery in the trunk to power the computer, and amps of my system, or would i be good on just one battery?
if you're just running your computer and not a bunch of extra car audio stuff, no need for an extra battery.

That's fine, but I'd suggest doing your research first before posting many questions that have been answered many times before. Read a bunch and post a little, at least while you're starting out. It will help you get a better understanding of what's going on if you do your own research.

i know the first thing you guys are going to say is the search button is your friend, but i need fast answers, along with me searching i should be able to get them faster.
why? this is not a project that you should rush. If you don't have the time to do the research on your own, I really don't think it's wise to think you have time to do this kind of an install. It's not a weekend thing. Some people have spent months and years getting their systems to where they are now.

When you do your own research, you learn a lot in the process, not jst about the specific question you have, but you will learn about many other things that you will eventually run into.
