    Question newbie questions

Ok i looked around mp3car forums and i read someone say that installin a carputer under the passanger seat is a bad idea. i was wondering what peoples opinions were. have people had a lot of problems with that? im worried about winter in ohio(where i live), if i have my computer in my trunk. i also dont want my computer to get fed up(which it might from what i read if i put it under the seat.)

Also, if i run a pair of 12s and my whole carputer off my battery, will it drain it?

and finally, should i worry about buying a car computer case? or is it do they really offer anything extra(ie a shock absorbing harness for hdds). or do i even have to worry about my hdd getting fed up from shock damage?

    Thanks for your help.

the battery will drain if the car is off, if the car is on, the alternator is powering your stuff, not the battery

under the seat, the case can get kicked, moved, crushed by the seat, blown on with ac (which can be good), blown on with heat (which is good or bad, depending on the temp outside), but under the seat, cables can be damaged a lot easier than if the pc was in the trunk

not to say that it isnt going to work, a lot of people have it under the seat, just make sure that no one is stupid enough to kick it, or to play with it

and you don't need shock proofing for the hdd, no one can prove that shock mounting an hdd helps at all

do u need a case? no, you dont need it, but if its going under a seat i'd recommend it, in thr trunk, where you can box it in, behind a panel or whatever, no you wouldnt need it

personally, i've kicked my pc tower at home, its fallen over onto a concrete floor (with hdds running), this's happened multiple times, and i've never had a bad write or anything (hdds over 3 years old now), some people would tell you to shock mount it, but personally, i dont see how you can get more than 250g force impacts in a car, unless you die in the process, but to each their own if you feel safer with shock mounts, just use some rubber o-rings where you mount it, but again, it isnt necessary, a lot of members have had car pc's for years without shock mounts, and their systems still run fine, but again, as i've come to learn, NO ONE can prove that shock mounting helps at all

mainly what will happen to sum it all up is 1 of 3 things.

    1. itll get wet and fry your feet are on the floor in the winter with snow.
    2. itll get kicked from a rear seat passenger or maybe even someone in the front.
    3. people will want to touch it and mess with it just because its there.

I know your about to say.. nah... not my friends.. they wouldnt.... .....right.... they would and they could. its just safer not to put it there.
