    Correct Hardware/Tools

    Hi,

I'm thinking of installing an amp in my crappy corsa. It's not to get banging tunes or anything but simply to have the choice of plugging in an AUX device (stock radio has no aux).

I know i have the option of upgrading the radio but was thinking about an amp because one day in the future i might want to add a computer to my car but for now i just need an aux input.

So i have a 4 speaker car (stock speakers), 2 front, 2 rear.

I have a couple of days of so was going to go and buy this amp
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...20Amps&doy=3m8

because it's the cheapest one i could buy in a shop today.

I was also going to buy this wiring kit
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?...=L82AK&DOY=3m8

Since i am new to this could someone have a look at the wiring kit and tell me if it has everything needed for a basic install.

My other question is how do i split the input to the amp with a switch so i can flick between radio and aux device.

    Cheers.

    Jon

I've installed a car amp once with everything and all, but I think this is al you need. For de switch just look on ebay or so for a audio switch. Don't know exactly what you need but I think there are some around. Good luck

It's not 100% necessary but if you use a LOC (line Output Converter) to convert your inputs from the factory wiring to RCA's you will get much better sound. Also if you are going to do it that way you will need another set of RCA's or "5m twin phono interconnect lead" as they are called on that page. Hope this made sense.

Yeah that was going to be my next question. I'm looking at the back of my radio and hope i'm right in thinking that the output from here that goes to the amp would be from the speaker pins. (4 speakers - 8 pins).
So that means i'd have to convert this to RCA's using a LOC.

So the setup would be Radio - LOC - Amp - Speakers in basic terms.
Am i right in thinking this ?

I looked around google and there are a few types of LOCs. Would i need more than 1? Can someone point me in the right direction with this.

    Thanks for the help.

there are several types of LOC's some are for 2 channels some are for 4 you could either do 2 two channel LOC's 1 four channel LOC and keep all of your fade and balance controls etc or you could get away with using 1 2 channel LOC and a pair of stereo splitters to get all four inputs for the amp, however you will lose some control over the sound (usually balance)
