How long does it take for your PC to boot??

I was just curious.... I would like to put a carPC in but I dont want to put a PC in that takes a couple of minutes to boot up everytime I turn my car on and off. That would get agravating.

I like the fact that my radio is on right when I turn my car on.

How do you guys handle this?

Takes my computer about a minute from startup to frontend / playing music. You can make it faster by using hibernate or standby, but that will continue to draw power from the battery. I don't want to worry about a dead battery, and thus, 1 minute is fine using full shutdown and cold boot.

Do you have to manually shut the PC down when you turn your car off?

It depends on what power supply unit (PSU) you get. I have an opus and one of its features has a startup/shutdown controller which automatically starts and shuts the pc off whe you start or turn the car off. Check out the FAQ Emporium it has all the answers!

I get a full boot from cold in about 17 seconds. Using a zipped windows image read from a flash disk on module, unzipped to ramdrive and then booted from there.

Hibernate doesn't take any power when shut down, standby does.

Shutdown controller takes care of the startup and shutdown process automatically.

Using S3 standby (uses VERY little power, on theorder of about 200 milliamps) takes about 10 seconds to get music.

From being absolutely off (no standby or hibernate), it takes my tablet laptop about 53 seconds to boot... I have a playlist in my start menu so that's about 53 seconds from pressing the power button to hearing music... Not so bad in my book...

it takes me almost exactly a minute from absolute off. I tried hibernate today and it took 2mins 20 secs!!!!! Blame it on the laptop drive and 1gig of ram i guess
