Accord 03... Will this setup work? please help

Ok I finally got my car, and I need to have a carputer, Ive had laptops and psp's hardwired and they all just dont cut it. The Accord 03-06 has some very tricky problems associated with it so I need to run ideas by you guys before I start getting parts. I have done my research and learned all I can from the forums.

    Ok first I get this...
    http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/HO...KIT_p_164.html

To replace to useless Oem HU, I do not have dual climate controls so I will never know the difference.

Then I pop a new this in that hole

    And hook that into this
    http://www.xenarc.com/product/cp1000.html

This will go beneath the lcd screen in the cubby hole that that will be helped with this adapter

SO that is MY idea.... heh ...
    so...... WILL IT WORK?

That's certainly one way to go about it, but you're missing at least one key element - your front end of choice. Also missing is an amplifier to power your speakers.

Since there are numerous ways to "skin" the CarPC "cat", you've got to go with what works best for you. Personally, I think the CP-1000 looks like crap and is seriously underpowered. By looking at the specs I have a hard time believing it's even a current model. I prefer the school of thought where the brains of the unit are hidden away . . . out of sight, out of mind so to speak.

The monitor you picked should do just fine. I have a similar model, and it's quite workable.

You can do a lot better than that particular PC, as well.
That's a P-233 CPU and is going to be slow by today's standards.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

How is that a key element? Not everyone has to run a front end, not everyone does.

Since htis user seems to be more interested in buying a bunch of premade stuff and slapping it in a car, rather than build it their self and learn how it all works and integrates, the prebuilt solution seems to be the only way to go.

While the unit he linked to seems underpowered, pwerhaps and explination of what would be better is in order?

I suppose I should have phrased it differently. Rather than a key element, it should be noted as an important consideration. While it's true that some people choose not to run a front end, it's arguably a good idea to consider using one as it helps unify things and provides a more user friendly interface.

Regardless, hardware alone won't do the trick, so some consideration must be given to software. I agree that a pre-made solution seems to be more of what he has in mind, although I would argue strongly against taking that direction.

    See, I disagree.

I have yet to find a front end that's just as easy or easier to use than just Windows.

I feel like the end user is caught having to fiddle with things too much just to get to where they want to go with all of the front ends I've played with...well, the ones I could even get to work that is.

I can't argue against the fiddle factor, but I think most people take that as a given. The whole process of sticking a PC in a car just invites things that need to be fiddled with. A necessary evil if you will.

yes - and I feel that there are certain areas where it's ok, and other areas where it's not acceptible.

Fiddling with it while installing it is one thing, fiddling with it while driving down the road isn't acceptible

Well, one would hope that all tweaking and fiddling is taken care of before hitting the open road. Alas, we all know that's not always the case.
