This might be one of the most newbie question ever..flame me if you want to, but I need to understand this.

If i want to power my USB Hub from 5V wire running from PSU how do I actually connect this wire to the USB Hub..isnt the wire a bare 10awg wire for example..doesnt it need a small plug at the end of it so you can plug it into the USB Hub...or other Devices for example (my Creative Jukebox Zen for recharging which also takes 5V dunno how much amp it draws)

Also can someone explain why some people ground the LCD screen and some dont...??

    Hi MastaShake and welcome!

Actually I was reading this and it's pretty much the same as the post that I've been going thru. I'm actually looking for a dist. block that's going to power my monitor and the cnx-p1900 psu. You can view the post called 'Noob confused about wiring'.

As for the usb hub powering question, if you look at one of those carnetix diagrams, they say you could buy one from the mp3car store. (diagram is in the post too.)

Well, keep at it. Cuz I will too!

No, that would be "What do I need to put a PC in my car to play MP3s, videos and have GPS navigation?"

For the USB hub, you don't need 10awg wire... The amount of current drawn byt the USB hub with all it's ports filled and powering devices isn't much at all, so a smaller wire is mroe than suitable.

Also can someone explain why some people ground the LCD screen and some dont...??
There has to be a ground to complete a circuit. That ground may be to the chassis or a line running back to the whatever is providing power to thge LCD.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

    more questions

    hi..got more questions...as usual..

Can someone please direct me in the right direction of making an on/off button in the dash..not how to make it in the dash, but how to make the actual button. Is it something you buy and then tap into the ignition wire?? or something like that.. i am a bit confused.

    thanks

You need a switch that will maintain on/off state and put on the IGN line.
It will act as a valet switch. If the switch is off, then no current will get to the IGN line fo the PSU or SDC, so it will not tell the PC to boot up.
If the switch is in the off position whiel the car is running and you turn the switch on, the PC will boot up. If you turn it off, the PSU or SDC will go through its normal shutdown routine.

Thanks for you reply once again DP.

As far as the switch is concerned, I search for keywords such as "switch", "button"...etc. Found some threads, now im going to google how to switch a wire..

How is your project coming along?
Well, like I said before I am going to do a fair amount of research before I even start buying anything. So I guess at this point I am.

Once I start buying things, I will make a worklog..but thats not going to be for another couple of months or so.
