You could easily mod the storage bin to fit in a 7" screen. You would have to do some cutting around where it curves inward from the outer lip. My plan is to do that and conceal it by having the front cover of the bin slide down
Only problem having it down there, is placement, think about it how much can you realy see if the gear knob is in the way and most lcd's are directional so it be hard to see it at that angle, right?

Ya they are directional. Thats why I want to use the LCD mentioned in my first post.....because on that you can change directions.

I don't have factory Navigation. The question still remains.........can I fit a single din in the cubby are or not ?. I know that I can put a 7" REGULAR LCD there.

Getting rid of the HU does a lot more than loose the climate control It's a vital part to some of the car's functions unfortunately. To hook up adio to it there are adapters that plug into the unit since the HU has an Aux. setting.
As for seeing it... the only time the gear knob will be close to the screen is in park-- but having it pulling out from the area will get it closer and i'm not sure if it would be in the way. I think in the links that were given in the beginning has a motorized one coming out of the single din compartment. So I'd say it is possible! You might want to contact that person, chances of getting them are probably slim since they are old links.

I have other questions for you since I roughly have the same car and going through some thoughts and planning at the moment. Where are you going to be placing the computer?? Laptop or not?
By the way.... I also got the mechanics repair manual for my hybrid off of ebay! It shows all the electrical aspects of the car with diagrams and what responses each pin and wire should have....along with it if one looked through it you could find out how to disassemble anything on the car -- interior and seats and such ... so if needed I can try and look up some diagrams for disassembly...

My original plan was to get a laptop and put it in the trunk but now I'm leaning more towards getting a desktop and putting it either under the seat or in the trunk
