Question $1000 Budget - What would you do?

    Hello Everyone,
    First post - be gentle

I've been lurking for some time now lots of GREAT information here! In fact, too much information - brain overload.

First off I drive a Ford Lariat F150 Supercrew. I'm wanting to add a puter for Navigation, MP3 playback, DvD, TV, XM/Local Radio, and WiFI access.

I have been looking at a few things on ebay:

    Car PC Kit-VIA SP13000 Mini-ITX MB, M2-ATX, VoomPC Case

    XM PCR

    Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 USB

    Slot Load DvD

Something like this for a FM Tuner

I'm still at odds on a Monitor, not exactly sure what will fit, I'm thinking a 7 or 8 inch. I'm worried about buying the monitor off ebay as I would like to see the brightness and overall quality.

Has anyone had any experience with the above listed, good or bad? It will be about a month before I start ordering everything and I'm just trying to get opinions on what I have selected so far as well as what I might need to add.
I don't have to have EVERYTHING at start-up, just the essentials.

    So far I have:
Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 with the GPS receiver
    iNav Software
    Powermate knob
    WinXP Pro

I will continue to as I'm sure there will be a lot of telling me to , is my friend.

    Thanks guys.

BTW: I'm very flexible and open to any and all ideas. Flame away, I can take the bad with the good

I'd get the 1.5ghz Jetway board (it runs pretty hot) from the same seller. I bought my 1.5ghz Jetway board from him a couple weeks ago, I'd recommed him to everyone. The only thing I would have done differently is I would've used the 12w version instead... but I didnt know about it at the time(the 12w version doesn't run hot like the 25w version) so...

I'd get the Globalstat BU-353 reciever, because the one you have is ehhh.. I bought that one first too. I have the 353 under a bunch of metal in my truck and I lock on all sats. Great buy!
    Setup:
    Dynaudio 240GT
    PPI PC4100, PPI PC2350
    Zapco DSP6
    ADS DAC
    Testing new board (Albatron KI690-AM2)

    Thanks for the reply!

    I don't see a 1.5ghz at 12w in any of his auctions.

As far as the GPS Receiver, your absolutly right, it sux to put it nicely but it will work for now. Once I get everything setup and installed I'll go with the
Holux GR 240 GPS USB Bluetooth SiRF III

The wife is having some concerns with this little machine, so I will be spending the bare minimum untill I can get it built and prove that it will be Groovy
Last January I built a shuttle PC that set the budget back a little bit and she thinks I have too many computers as it is (is that possible?)

Anyone have any other advice or comments on my setup thus far?

    Thanks!

Looks like a good build. I would recommend the C134 case and computer (as it was the carpc I was going to use.) Already comes with ram, harddrive, and OS and they are great computers.

    FS: (C134) CarPC *$450*

    If you looking at buying.

I see you're looking at an HQCT. Just a suggestion, but you may want to look into an HD Radio. HQCT is expensive, and you can get a Directed DMHD1000 + mitchjs cable for ~$75. I've had both and the Directed unit gets better reception, but you may have better luck with the HQCT.

Edit: Just realized this was a really old thread
