so which would you prefer, i can get pc parts for relatively cheap if not free, (im an is tech) so far i havent spent any cash... and ive picked up a 40 gig hard drive... so.. what do ya think.
I think you're an I.S. tech. You ought to know whether the Gateway solo can handle your needs or not. If it can, I'd go with it to simplify the power requirements. If not, go with the original.

well ive been checking it out, seems like it would make more sense to use the gateway solo, instead of the motherboard i picked up. heres a list i made of pro's and con's of using the 2500:

    pro's:

no trouble getting power source figured out
smaller processor so less power used and less heat.. (p2)
    easy installation
will be all i need rather than a bluetooth dongle, gps antenna, wireless controller (for emulators, and mame) and touchscreen + the 2500 was free...cant beat that

    con's:
    speed?
only 6 gig hard drive. -might be able to find a bigger one but not sure yet.
i believe it has 1.1 usb connectors which could be a bad thing for a external dvd drive.
not sure if it can handle what i want it to do.

right now its kind of hard for me to test it, cause its not identifying the operating system, so i plan on installing a stripped version of windows xp (bare essentials) and tweaking the boot process's.

i guess one of my biggest concerns is wether or not the 2500 can handle and mame setup or a nes, snes emulator setup. - i kind of like to give my passenger something to do.

ive just got so many questions, so few answers- guess the best way to learn is too just dive in head first. guess ill get started on this today then...

If you've got the hardware in hand, load it up and try it out. Diving in is the only way to figure this stuff out.

Not usually very easy to do. The monitors are built specifically for the laptop. The use LVDS and you'd have to get some kind of controller for it. Cost you more than a desktop monitor and it would still be a hack.

Sell it on eBay to people who need a new 2500 screen?
