    800 x 480 + Intel Extreme 2

Its not happenin. I have a dell 700m set up as a CarPC. I'm finding it impossible to get this resolution or even anything close to it.

The video card does not list this resolution as one of its acceptable modes.

Power strip doesn't work because it won't allow me to change the "active" pixels.

I've tried creating a custom monitor driver, doesn't work

I've heard of changing the resolution with a "modline" which a think is a registry hack but I don't know how to do that.

I'm not sure if there is any possible way to do it then to change the video driver somehow so it will support this resolution.

    Otherwise its just not possible

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

What kinda of card is in your laptop? As far as I can do, if you right click on desktop, properties (personalize), settings (display settings), advanced (advanced settings), adapter tab, list all modes.., then select you 800X600. Also you can try to go to the properties tab and unselect modes that work with your monitor and it should give you a list.

I put the (***) stuff for people like me using vista.

800X600 is NOT the same as 800x480. Do some lookin around this site. The LCD panels tend to run at 800x480 natively, but most video cards don't like to run at 800x480. It's been a constant battle with many folks here. I gave up on it like a year ago...

Edit sorry didn't see he said 800X480, but none the less it should still be an options on his graphics card to output at that res. I tryed on all of my latops Dell ATI 9700 and HP Nivida 5600go and got to out put at 800X480 but on my 5600go my LCD didn't look good at all.

I would think you need the drivers for the LCD display in there. Usually, the driver for the display tells windows what resolutions it can use. Some desktop LCDs for example cant display 640x480, so the option isnt in Windows.

I've tried creating a custom monitor driver. Windows ignores the 800 x 480 resolution. I've also used powerstrip to open up all of the available resolutions with no luck.

In the list of supported resolutions, 800 x 480 is not there. I assume that means that the video card drivers won't accept that resolution.

You sure it's 800x480? That's a rare option. Perhaps you are thinking of
848x480? Anyways, if 800x480 is infact an option consider yourself lucky. Not many have that available. Now, if only VIA would fix that problem........
