Bench power problems?

Hi there,
I am running an old 150w power supply from an old computer to power my bench testing & get my carputer all set up. My setup includes:

-voompc case
-mini itx c3 1.5gh via board & Cpu
-Dww-750fm head (4x 45watt, but no speakers hooked up)unit & screen combo w/usb touchscreen
-m2 power supply

-2 usb hubs
-external usb dvd
-usb tv tuner
-usb bluetooth
-soon to arrive usb odb
-soon to arrive usb wifi

I keep having problems getting my dvd drive to function properly. It works fine on my laptop, but not well at all in the above setup. Is it possible that the 1st 4 items are drawing so much power that it simply doesn't have enough left over & isn't allowing the dvd to work? Will it work fine in my car when I install it this coming weekend? At that time, the head unit/screen will have different power sources from the car. Or should I put off the installation for a while? Any input is appreciated.

The headunit is likely pushing it over the limit.
Most of us test only the PC on the bench, and have the headunit in the vehicle.

Probably, but I can't say for certain based on the information you've given.
I suggest installing the headunit in your ride first, then bench test only the PC portion of it. If the PC works, then configure it the way you want and move it into the vehicle.

I think u r right DarquePervert. I will take the head unit out of the equation & use an old monitor off AC. If all is good, then my install will proceed as planned this weekend.

Yep, taking out the head & screen worked like a charm. Now there is more power availble on the bench & the dvd is working. Thanks!

Hi Morris,

Hope it wont be too much trouble for you to share the cicuit diagram for how you connected your test bench. Im starting on setting up a test bench and would need some inputs on it.. Just scared i may fry my mobo.

You should really do some reading in that particular subforum. There are lots of informational write-ups that are designed to answer common questions.
