Build planning - How's this look? Comments?

I plan on putting this in my quadcab 05 Dodge Ram

I've done a ton of reading and tried to learn from others. I spoke with mp3car today and they were really helpful. Going to be ordering what I can from them. Here's what I think is going in. Will this work? Anything that I'm missing? The case I'll be making myself. The sound will be going into an aftermarket head units auxillary RCA jacks from the sound out of the motherboard.

It looks like it will work....

For aesthetic as well as lower power draw, you might consider replacing the full-sized optical with a slim one. Another suggestion for optical drives is a slot-load drive. The trays are notoriously flimsy, and putting a disc in while driving could result in a useless optical drive with a broken tray.

As a general rule, I avoid PC-Chips motherboards. I've had bad experience with them. You may not feel that way. It's just a personal opinion.

Be sure to take lots of pics of your install.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

I second DarquePervert's reccomendation not to go with PC Chips.

I believe another member on the forum bought that motherboard, and it turned out that the amd "mobile" athlon xp, turned out to be an underclocked desktop athlon xp.

Also, have you thought of where you are going to mount it?

just checking, since depending on where you put it, you may have to get a whole slew of extension cables

    Cool. thanks.

Well now I'm having problems finding the right CPU and MB then since you guys are suggesting a new one.

The one I listed is $80 shipped for CPU/MB/and fan. with onboard everything.

Can anyone please suggest what would be something close to as fast or faster than this combo, that would be more reliable, that is around $100 or less?

This is just a suggestion, obviously depending on your budget and exactly what you need you may way to switch some things.

Things to look for in a system:
if your going to be entering standby instead of shutting down make sure the mobo supports s3 standby.

Instead of looking for a higher end system, try to compromise performance with power consumption.

Other than that do the normal stuff.
Read up on the products, check compatability and read reviews for common problems.

    good luck

yeah, i was trying to do the power consumption choices with the mobile amd. this is like an art form picking all this stuff heheh.

so s3 standby. I always buy all my parts from newegg. what I dont buy from mp3car i will get the rest from newegg. but i dont see, even in the MB you showed s3 standby. So should I pick a few motherboards and go to the manufacturers website to look for s2 standby or is there any easier way?

I want to make sure its fast enough to run divx movies, play some games, nothing too crazy though, and browse web pages.

    thanks for the help

I searched on "show off your car" forum with m2atx and i'm looking at what others are running. Trying to get what's most popular and fits with what I need

a tad more than I wanted to spend but this combo looks sweet! what do you think?

    AMD Turion 64 Mobile MT37
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103521

GIGABYTE GA-K8N51GMF Socket 754 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128320

    $185.

$85 more than I wanted, but fast and super low power and runs cool. Might be worth to trade the extra money for headaches.
