New to Car PC, here is my setup.

    Hi All,

One day I was reading a Magazine and saw an article on car pc.
That was my starting point of car pc idea.
I’ve been searching the net about it for a few weeks now.
    Thankfully, I found Mp3car.com forum.

I’ve read many posts and I saw a lot of very nice installations.
There are many posts here that are truly inspirational.
I thought to myself that I now it’s my turn to install my own car pc.

Here is the list of what I had in my car:
    Head Unit: JVC KD-G725
Front Comp: Phoenix Gold Octane R COMP 6” Component
Sub Amp: Phoenix Gold Octane R 250W/2 Channel
    Sub: Phoenix Gold Tantrum 10”

To install Car PC, I’m thinking of getting rid of the head unit and letting the PC controls everything dure to limited space of my car.

Here is what I planing to install:
Head Unit: Car PC 160 W
Comp Amp Phoenix Gold Octane R 500W/4 Channel
Front Comp: Phoenix Gold Octane R COMP 6” Component
Sub Amp: Phoenix Gold Octane R 250W/2 Channel
    Sub: Phoenix Gold Tantrum 10”

Please feel free to comments or making suggestions on my set up.
    Thank you for reading.

sorry, but what the hell do you think this means to other people?
Head Unit: Car PC 160 W
Most people post the specifics of their pcs, the motherboard, ram, hard drive, power supply, case, monitor, peripherals.. etc..
you should look in the faqs to give you some orientation

edit: this is a good read, start here

The reason I wrote my spec in unit of watts, is that I want to figure out how to run my wiring for this set up

I want to plan my wiring first.
I'm sorry if it is not in detail like what you expected.

To make it more clear here is my PC in details:

RAM: 512M RAM - Looking on Ebay
    HDD: 80 GB WD 2.5 - arrived
Optical Drive: Slim Slot Load -Looking on Ebay
    PSU: M2-ATX (160W) - Arrived
    Screen: Lilliput 7" 619GL - Arrived
    Case: VoomPC - Arrived

From the PC specs, it matches with the M2 very well. But what comments you would like?

Wiring? Both carputers and ICE wires differently and individually. You can probably share the power supply from the batt by using a distro block. But that's about it.

Linking your carputer to your sound system, there are many ways. Depending on budget. The most simple/direct way is to get the line out from the carputer and hook it up to your amp, therefore eliminating the need of a HU.

    Thnanks for reply SentraVIP.

I'm looking for some free program on the net to draw wiring diagram.
I will post the diagram as soon as I'm done with it.

For sound, I'm looking at getting USB sound card.
I will start with Zalman ZM-RSSC USB 5.1 first and see how it will sound.

It really doesn't make sense to start with the wiring first. For one, your calculated power consumption could be incorrect if you needed to change components. Your psu might be overkill. But I guess you already have it, so that really doesnt matter.

Make sure you get low profile ram.

don't forget little things, like extension cables and the 3.5mm to rca cables.

I think if I run wire big enough then I can upgrade without having to rewiring the whole thing again.

Thte reason I use m2-atx is that so I can upgrade later. I want to be able add more thing to my setup in the future. Maybe rear camera, gps, ect.
