    hi ya guys..

after I knew something like a carputer existed.. Ill never turn my face into another multimedia device.

    Anyway here is my info.

    I have a ford mustang 2006 GT

I want to have a screen ( touchscreen ) that will fit inplace of my stock cd player thats maybe 6.5'' ? 7'' ? so whats the good quality screen and how much does it cost ?

I need to run a fast computer in my car with a good cooling system because weather gets hot here.. I also need the usb female port (2 ) and a wireless connection ...

Im the noobiest noob on computers.. lol so teach me more plz... What else do I need other than installing screen,pc,fans and a mini mouse with a mini keyboard ? How hard is this job ? and whats the total estimated price ?

    thanks

You have a double din opening more than likely. So basically, you have a few options. You can get a double din 6.5" screen from digitalww (http://www.digitalww.com/DWW-6500.htm) for $650

or you can get a motorized flip-out single din 7" unit like the following for $450 at the mp3car store or one just as good for about $250 from eBay new from HongKong...

or you can get a regular 7" screen for about $175-$220 on eBay or a huge amount from the mo3car store that you will need to fabricate yourself like this:

The main competitors are lilliput and xenarc. Lillis are cheapo hong kong models that work fine but are supposedly not as good quality. (I have a rip-off of a lilliput from Hong Kong and works fine) Xenarcs are very expensive and I guess they last longer.

There is also another option for a "transflective" screen for about $680 from the mp3car store.

Why? All you really need to be doing is music, gps, and video. A 700Mhz P3 or a via board of 1Ghz works very well. You don't need any faster. And these boards run cool too.

All modern boards have at least 2 USB ports, and you can also get a powered hub. Wireless connection can be done via USB, PCI, or CF if you have the slot.

This hobby requires a lot of computer skill. You might have to learn quite a bit. I reccommend reading most of the FAQ's before you buy anything. It will save you a lot of time, money and hassle.

All of these things are dependant on your system. Price will vary according to specs. Fans not really needed.

It is pretty hard to do it right, but easy to screw it up.

    Just ask Maheriano.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

New to CarPCs? Don't know where to start?

All of the basic questions could have been answered in one spot, right at the top of this very forum...

btw - I don't see what's so different about this set-up from 90% of the other set-ups on here?

Your a member at mustangforums.com, right? I have a 2006 stang, and I just finished my project. Ill send post some pics for you tomorow. I uses a laptop mounted in the trunk, and I mounted the stock shaker 500 headunit behind my indash lilliput 619 screen. I then uses an auxiliary input adapter from discountcarstereo.com to make the sound work from the laptop to the speakers. I decided to power the laptop with a power inverter that is mounted under the dash. I then mounted a switch in the center console to turn on the power to the screen and the power to the power inverter. The power inverter is connected to the battery. I also mounted a switch in the center console to power on the laptop. If you have anymore questions, just send me a pm at mustangforums or here.

    hilariousness

I didn't really mess anything up, just repeatedly asked the same things until I squeezed every bit of information about of people they would provide until it resulted in colourful diagrams of my personal well being in a fiery death!
