New Plan ... Need Advice and Approval

Well since I am new to this and never have done anything like this before, it is important to me that I get approval and advise prior to the project. All I want is a PS2/DVD Player in the glove compartment. (PS2=DVD Player)

    My Plan:

150 Watt Inverter from Bestbuy ($40)
    Runs out of Cigarette Lighter

7" Lilliput Standalone Mounted in Glove Compartment
I would drill it in using the stand that comes with the lilliput

PS2 hidden somewhere like under the seat and would run off the 150 watt inverter

    QUESTIONS:
    1. Would the inverter running off the cig lighter be on only when car is on?
    2. When I put the lilliput in the glove comp, can I just also plug that in to the cigarette lighter to power it instead of wiring it to the battery or opus
    3. Does the lilliput have an On/Off button on it
    4. Will 150 watt inverter power the PS2?
    5. Will my Civic Cig Lighter be able to power 150 Watt inverter as well as Lilliput?
    6. Will this setup have any power problems that would keep my components running when car is off that could result in battery death

And in regards to connecting the PS2 to car speakers etc. The Video part of the RCA connectors would go to the Lilliput. The audio parts of the RCA connectors (red and white) would go to the AUX mode on my alpine CD deck. Would this work? Seems logical to me?

Well if you don't have a slim type PS2, I won't ebay yours and buy a slim. Because they are almost the same price nowadays. Just as some advice.

You said you have a civic, and in my civic, the cig lighter is only on when the car is on.

Yes, but don't. I'll explain in a bit.

Yes. More like an on/standby button. The lights (at least on my lilliuput ripoff) stay lit. Draws almost no power though, since it is like 4 rope leds.

    Yes.

If you run it through a dc-dc solution, then you will need to get a 8.5v output.

    NO!

The wires behind there are sooooooooo small. Here is a link to site that has a wire guide: http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm

The wires behind there (on mine at least) were about 1mm thick, so 18awg. So that is 2.3A for power transmission. 2.3A * 12v = 28W

The PS2 takes more than that. Run a wire from your battery. And keep in mind that an inverter is not efficient at all, so to get 45W out, it will take like 60W.

Well no, but your battery needs a bunch of charge to start so don't run it for too long.

hmmm... i'm gonna have to resurrect this.... i was thinking about a PS2 run off of a DC-DC inverter, but 8.5V and 45A? damn...

how would I go about getting an 8.5V line from like an M2 or opus 120?

first off, that is 45 Watts, not Amps. If both rails can handle 3.5 Amps, you might be able to use 12V as positive and 3.3V as common. That gets you 8.7V. But due to the way the power is supplied (diodes and such) there's a good possibility it wont work. Don't they have some power supplies for PS2 that are designed for that output? 12 in 8.5 out?
    It's been a while...

    Maybe not.
Remember that the focus of these forums is computer installation, not game console installation.

    Good information nonetheless....
