YOu know... There's a FAQ Emporium subforum with write-ups about al these basic questions.
You really should go do some readng there.

Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

You can use the line out from a sound card. It works, but you run the risk of a loud "thump" when the system turns on. My friend has his setup this way, and doesnt get a thump tho.

On my setup, Im using a USB DAC (digital audio converter), which does not kick in until windows starts, so there is no thump. It also puts out a pretty good voltage to the sound quality is very good.

I would assume so, because the computer is just feeding the sound into the radio in which you still control the volume. But if the volume is down on your Carputer, then it would affect the output from the speakers in the car through the head unit. I hope that makes sense.

You will almost certainly need a ground loop breaker - they take 2 RCAs in and 2 RCAs out and it will clean up the hum caused by dissimilar grounds. Most car radio stores sell them - between $10 and $30.

Those severely degrade sound quality if that matters in this setup.

Most of these issues can be solved by good grounds and seperating audio/power wires.
