Why a DC-DC regulator / how to connect amps and subs?

Hello everone!

First of all sorry for my bad english,
I have two questions and hopefully someone can help me.

1* Im looking into putting a carputer in my car. But I was wondering how do you put power on that thing?
I have a 300w 12V to 230V (europe) converter. Can I use that?
It looks stupid to go from 12V to 230V and then back to 12V. Is there any other option, like a DC-DC regulator, what is that exacly?

2* How do you connect your current installation to your carputer. Is it just connecting the soundcard to the amps and then from the amps to the subs?

Maybe someone has a schedule or list what you exacly need to complete a carputer installation.

I have searched this forum, but my english is not that good. Hopefully someone will spare some time to answer my questions.

I'd first read this thread (can be found at the top of the very forum you just posted in): New to CarPCs? Don't know where to start?

THEN move onto the FAQ emporium.
