Half Brewed Idea for Car Project... Help?

Howdy Everyone!

I have a 2002 Explorer, and am deciding to engage in yet another car project

I want to install a car-puter, using a laptop!

So far I have a Pioneer DEH-P5800MP Head Unit

I am going to order the following:

What I need to know is, wha do I need to buy to easily power my laptop, so it turns on with the truck (perferably out of standy mode) and goes back into standby once the truck is turned off. Also, what software is avaliable to me to install on the lappy? I want something with a nice frontend. I've considered using Windows XP + Microsoft Streets and Trips for the GPS software, amongest other things.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

I am also starting out, but it looks like the power on thing has been solved by this guy:

Laptop Auto Power-On / Turn-On Module

So my plan is to use the laptop too, mount an inverter in the trunk, include this auto on module and go from there. There apprears to be lots of software for front ends so take your pick.
