im in the process of turning my s10 into an mp3car, and already got the monitor molded into the dash bezel and everything and am about to start ordering computer components so i can start installing soon, but i have a million questions. to start, here is a short list of basic things i need to know.
1) are you guys running any kind of factory or aftermarket headunit? or are you just integrating the computer into a factory or aftermarket stereo? i cant decide which way to go.
2) those that dont use any kind of headunit, what are you doing to startup your computer? is it a pain to have to boot up every time you get in to go for a ride?
3) do you have to manualy shut down the thing every time you turn your car off?
4) how do you keep the computer from drawing voltage from your battery when the car is off?

This is a hobby of research. You cannot just jump into this full tilt without spending quite a bit of time reading.
I have to ask...did you get a VGA screen or are you expecting to use any old LCD screen?

i used a liliput 8.4" i got off ebay. here it is in the bezel, which is off getting painted right now:
okay, i read through the thread and still have questions, like what happens if the computer is running and i shut my car off without shutting windows down? that can cause errors with windows. what do you guys do to combat that? and is there a way to get the computer to boot itself up and load windows automaticly when i start up the car? also, what keeps the computer from drawing power, even when it is shut down?
sounds like you didn't read the thread at all.
the DC-DC PSUs are built specifically to take care of the issue you're asking about.
they tell the computer to go through a soft shutdown when you pull the key out of the ignition.
all of your other questions are answered all over this forum. You really need to learn to use the search function.
