    Completely Noob!

Hello everyone, I am a completely new driver, I have a Volkswagen Jetta 2006. Now I know this is alot to ask, but I really wanna learn about my new car, and how I can mod it and add a carputer to it, and other cool things as well.

I have built my own computers and Im somewhat of a computer geek. But I never dealt with carputers before, an d just looking at all the things on this forum, I can't help but want to learn this stuff.

So my question is this: Where can I learn how to build and put a carputer?

    Thank you all.

thanks, and sorry for not looking around before I actually posted. But I did get through reading lots of that stuff. However, i was just wondering, do you have any like walk through guides with pics on how to actually built a carputer?

Most people that start building a car-pc, usually already have the experience from building a regular desktop. If you don't have this experience, I'd advise just buying a prefab system.

So to answer your actual question: Nope we don't really have a step-by-step guide to build a car-pc from scratch.
An other reason we don't have a specific guide is because everyone on here expects diffirent things from their system and built it accoringly....

edit: I see you already have the experience with desktops, so this should be a pretty easy task to accomplish.

You do have to keep in mind you have less power to consume, so you'll have to build your system to the power you can supply. Unless you are going to use a power-invertor you're limited to an opus 250, that has only 120watts on the +12v, or the DSATX that has 144watts on the +12v rail

ah yes I see, that shouldn't be too much of a problem, because you wouldn't need too much power to run multimedia apps. I was thinking like a Pentium M dual core or something around those line. But now would I use a normal power supply? See its like the fine details that I'm not getting form this whole process of a carputer. Like for example, after I get the whole computer up and running, what programs would I use, and like how would I connect it so that it's connected to the car power?

It's really alittle confusing to me, but Im definitely gonna be doing lots of research, I plan to begin building this thing probably in the spring or the summer, depending on how prepared I am mentally and financially.

All of the questions you have just asked are issues that were important to resolving at the very beginning of this hobby....and since the hobby has evolved to where it is now, I think it's safe to assume that these things have been worked out or are being worked out.

Use the resources on this forum to your advantage. Look around on the store to find products that you might not even know already exist.

There's so much that's possible with a CarPC. Because of this there's not a diffinitive all in one solution for everyone. It's really no different than building a home PC. If you were to go onto a gaming forum and ask what system you should build, people will tell you to figure out your requirements first, then lead you to make the decisions on your own. It's really better that way. Else, you won't necessarially understand why you're running what you're running and the benefits and drawbacks to it and other solutions.
