    networked pc's in taxi.

I have a peugeot eurobus taxi which is fitted with 3 Epia-m boards, 1 15" monitor and 2 10.4" monitors. I use this setup in my taxi to provide karaoke and music videos to my passengers. There is also a broadband wireless hotspot using a buffalo router and an hsdpa mobile connection from T-mobile.

The audio output from the main pc is taken into the blaupunkt stereo in the dash. The speaker setup is as delivered from the factory and sounds, frankly, quite horrible. I think that i need to upgrade my speakers and chuck some amplification at the system.

Getting a 100Mbit network, wifi network, bluetooth et al working in the car was childsplay,, but i have no idea about where to go with the speaker setup. I suspect that a sub would be a good idea but have limited space to play with as i have to carry a wheelchair ramp in back of the cab.

can someone point me in the right direction please.

    Thank you.

    Mark.

p.s. When describing equipment please can you just give generic descriptions rather than specific kit as I have a limited budget and it will be easier for me to find kit to a spec rather than an equivalent to top brand stuff. Cheers guys and gals. I have a budget of around 550 to complete this project.

Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

DP, cheers, but that thread doesn't quite provide the info i am after. I have got the sound from the pc's through the stereo but it is the bit between the stereo and the ears that needs sorting out.

I use the line in on the stereo.

I am unable to get rid of the dash stereo as i need to keep the convenience of the volume control easy to hand... Imagine 7 very drunk people singing (??) bohemian rhapsody in a confined space like a cab.... It hurts. The police have stopped me more than once and asked me to turn my passengers down! lol

    Cheers

First off i giggled at your use of cheers... but im down with it.

Secondly... How do you have everything connected to the stereo?
Possibly place an amplifier in between that. But, I strongly suggest that you replace your speakers too. It will drown out the drunk blokes. haha blokes. sorry..

sounds like a cool setup for a taxi!

right, here's the route id go:
ideally you could do with upgrading the factory stereo (if at all possible). unless the headunit has rca outputs then you will struggle to get even half decent sound even if you run an amp between the speakers and the headunit.

replace the speakers with some half decent components of the same size. thats the easiest way. you may need speaker ring adaptors which can possibly be bought or made from mdf with the help of a jigsaw (not a big job)

get a 4 channel amp with at least 4x50W RMS (just incase you dont know, the RMS is the important bit. dont be fooled by anything advertising max watts)

id do all the above, see how it sounds, and then if your still not happy get a small sub/amp combo to tuck in the corner of the boot.

Hey guys, don't poke fun at us brits... and just coz i drive french car... i beat myself up over that every day!! lol

The pcs are mounted on the head lining above the front seats. These are hidden by the monitors which are mounted on a home made frame. I have run a 3.5mm stereo jack lead from there, down the door pillar to the back of the stereo. There is a proper plug available to go into the iso connector in the back of the stereo, but at 25 i just soldered some leads to the appropriate pins on the iso socket and terminated them with phono connectors. Then a standard 3.5mm stereo conn to 2xphono plug lead and wahaay, we got soundz!!

i will get some pics of the setup and post the here sometime.

The factory stereo has already been upgraded. it doesn't have rca (phono) outputs but the pins are there on the iso connector I think. If not i think you can get amps that use speaker level inputs... I hope so anyway.

I am looking for better quality sound, unfortunately upgrading to customers that sing better is quite a challenge!.

The cab is something of a legend in these parts... It is very popular with hen nights.. its a tough job, but someones gotta do it.

I didn't mention it before but i also have 224 leds in the roof, a mirrorball, smoke machine, bubble machine and strobe fitted.

sounds like the taxi located here in austin...with a few tb of data.

you say you have upgraded the stereo in the car...I'm gathering that you mean you've upgraded the radio. If that's the case, I seriously doubt that it has no RCA outs as nearly every single aftermarket HU out there has RCA outs.

Can you give me a link to the HU that you purchased?

It almost sounds like you're trying to go from the speaker output to an amplifier...which will not work.

I want to ride in your taxi!

But have you considered a USB soundcard? Relatively quick and cheap. Dramatic quality improvement for little money.
