    i r noob

    i dont want to install a computer in my car. i just want to play MP3's without using cd's. preferably with a flash drive or laptop hdd. is this possible? what do i need. i have a pioneer deh-p4650mp. i will upgrade the headunit if need be.

    if i had a pioneer usb adapter, would the headunit recognize the MP3's on the hdd just like a cd?

    buy a HU with aux-in and an mp3player and be done with it.

    That is the answer.

    A harddrive does not have the same protocol that can be read by your crappy HU. Maybe only a flash drive, and even then it will be limited in capacity. Most are limited to 512Mb for the cheap ones or 1Gb for the big ones.

    Easiest/cheapest is get a mp3 player and run it through a direct fm modulator. Not wireless, but wired.

    Okay here is what you have to buy.
    - An Alpine HU with ipod adapter/cable.
    - An ipod of your choice.

    Plug the 2 together and call it a day.
    And if you still want to use a USB HD as your music source, do what we're all doing.

    just bought the pioneer cd-ub100

    my 4 GB flashdrive works with it just fine.

    i live near china, so computer products are cheap. thanks
