I have noticed that websites and Ebay are charging around the same price for mainboards with 1.0ghz as they do for boards with 1.5ghz (usually C7s). Why would you spend $20 less and get 500mhz slower proc?

I bought a CN 1.0GHz instead of 1.3GHz because it was cheaper, fanless, and sufficient.
My first computer ran at 1MHz, so 1000 times that is plenty, thanks![]()
Power is an issue. I swapped out a 1.2GHz Duron for an 850MHz Duron because it would save me 28W (44%) and I had issues with my 100W DC-DC Converter. The slower processor still does everything I want it to do just fine: Nav, MP3, Web/Email, OBD-2 interface, and full-screen video. There's no DVD drive yet, so we'll see if that works.

Alright.. Well, I guess power consumption is a good reason.. I just don't know if that'd be the main reason people would save $20.00 instead of going all out.. I mean, a good PS to power a 1.5ghz isn't that expensive (unless you want it to be..) Man.. I gotta do a LOT more research!!! This is killing me! heh..
In my case it isn't so I can run a cheaper PS. It's so I can run my computer for longer on my auxiliary battery without running it down. So my alternator doesn't have to work as hard to charge my batteries. Or, so my carpc hasn't run down my auxiliary battery rendering my winch less useful, once I get it. Stuff like that. I had a laptop in my last vehicle and this time around I'm actually building a computer, but I'm a bit out of the loop on what to get too.
