In the there are no stupid questions cloud --

How do I get this to work on a ppc? I see you have a dmg for a mac intel, but obviously that won't work

Do you have fink and the OSX developer tools installed? If so, it's easy to build yourself. You need "cmake" and "fltk-aqua" in fink, and gpsd build as described here, then follow the regular build instructions for unix on the obdgpslogger homepage.

Of course, "easy" gets relative, depending on how much of that other stuff you need to do [eg, if you don't have fink and the developer tools, them's a lot of effort].

If not, I'm trying to build a universal binary package right now, which includes making universal versions of the libraries it needs [which I hadn't done before, oops].

Unfortunately, my OSX PPC laptop was sacrificed to make a PPC Linux box, else I'd just build it for you quickly on that :-/

... I don't suppose there's anyone out there who has a ppc mac with the OSX developer tools installed that they'd let me log into remotely to build this stuff, is there?

Also, do you have 10.4 [tiger] or 10.5 [leopard] ?

If you have 10.5 [leopard], I *think* there's a universal binary here:
    OBDGPSLogger-0.11-Darwin.dmg

It may or may not work [no OSX PPC to test on right now, but it looks like a bunch of universal binaries]. All of the useful modules are in the bundle [including obdsim]. Double-clicking the application should open obdgui and let you get started.

If you're on Tiger, I couldn't get either fltk or gpsd to compile against 10.4u. I should probably just reinstall the tiger laptop.

Sheepishly, I have no SDK and am running Tiger. My defense is that this is the computer in the car, my only Apple, and I am still learning OS X.

I could compile it myself; unfortunately, all my computers in the house are PCs, and I don't know of a way to emulate a PPC on a PC to even think about compiling it.

Heh. No SDK is fine, tiger is more of an effort.

For some reason, when I try to build universal binaries, if I build against the tiger SDK it doesn't work. Perhaps you could try the bundle I put up; it *may* conceivably work?

I'll take another look later. I need to reformat the ppc again anyways, since ubuntu 9.10 is a buggy piece of ****.

No joy on 11. I appreciate the effort; its me trying to work with 5 year old technology. Unfortunately, the DVD player won't work under Leopard.

It's all good, I think I'll try to reinstall tiger in a few minutes.

    How about this one:
    OBDGPSLogger-0.11-Darwin-ppc.dmg

For shame, the UI really is pretty weak, but all of the actual modules are in there, so you can always use them directly.

I'll give it a whirl and let you know. Snow is coming, so it may take a day or so. Thanks!
