    Yay!

Personally, I'd leave the PATH alone. There's no harm in having extra stuff in there, and if you run "make install", then all of obdgui/obdgpslogger/obdsim will end up in your path, there'd be no environment variable molestation necessary at all.

I'll take a gander at GPSD. You almost certainly don't want or need FFTW.

    Unhappy Back to square one?

What a day! This morning the ubuntu laptop refused to boot. It would power on, shut itself off, then power on, then off, then on... The screen was completely dark all the time. I tried removing power and battery then reinstall the battery. Same thing.

Then I started to look at cygwin on the Windows laptop. I wanted to make NetBeans work. I did
    echo "PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin" >> /etc/profile && source /etc/profile
Initially NetBeans was happy to import the project without the usual problem of finding a wrong gmake.exe in one of the Windows paths. But when it tried to build the project one of the program (I think gcc but not sure) had trouble parsing Windows directories with names containing spaces. So I moved the entire project to a different directory that does not have spaces in any folder names. But then NetBeans had the same old problem of finding a wrong gmake.exe in one of the Windows paths when trying to import the project! The project was imported but some kind of code assistant was not. I then tried to build from NetBeans and it came back saying cmake failed, lacking a dll. I went back to the X-term and typed
    cmake .. #
which had been working fine before but now it says it's missing
    cygidn-11.dll

I wiped cygwin and reinstalled - twice - the same thing.
    cygidn-11.dll missing
    What a day!

    Question GPS and CygWin?

I did get the GPS USB in today and tested it with the manufacturer utility OK. How do I let obdgpslogger running from CygWin know about it? Currently it is on COM5 port. Thanks!

From within cygwin, you'll need to see if you can install gpsd [downloadable at http://gpsd.berlios.de, if it's not in the cygwin repository]

It should be as simple as the usual "./configure; make; make install".

Once you've done that, you'll need to re-build obdgpslogger as it needs to link with the gpsd client library, something it can only do when you re-run cmake.

That path modification is almost certainly something you don't want to do.

Thanks I will try that later. In the meantime I managed to get back to the Ubuntu system and since it had no problem with gpsd and no problem with NetBeans I will work with Ubuntu first.

I am still stuck at the Fluid thing: the custom gauge would initialize its value (same as others) but would not update: thread here.
