Trouble with cheap serial->usb reader from China.

I purchased one for ~$20 shipped, and naturally it only logs the obdii time and a bunch of empty position values. Any ideas about what I can try to get it working?

I finally installed XP on my netbook and the device is functional. Since I have the driver files for windows, is there any way I could use the information from those to allow it to function in linux?
