Verizon sucks. So I made the switch finally and the first thing I did was break my phone last night. I bought a new one today and they wanted 20 dollars to activate it. I was like 'are you KIDDING me? So customer service tells me I can do it myself online.

There's nothing like going to customer service and hearing 'do it your dam self'

I still can't get it activated.

    I'll just go back tommorow.

I've got sprint and the Samsung A900... excellent coverage and w/ a $5 unlimited data plan... with speeds up to 930kbps (she burns some juice at those speeds though, hence a data cable for in the car)... I love my phone. Works great w/ my carpc

So you are trying to activate a Verizon phone?

Just go to any RatShack and ask them to activate it. They have a special 1800 number that pretty much puts them on the top of the list when they call to activate phones. If you call yourself, you get the crappy number and everytime someone from a RadioShack, or Verizon store or anywhere else calls, you get pushed behind them.

Then give the hostile lady that answers the phone the 3 numbers on the barcode of your phone (both on the box and under the battery usually) and then you press a key sequence, changes from phone to phone, and you then enter the act# on the phone, and within about 5 minutes (they say up to 24 hours but are usually pretty fast) the phone will get an encrypted message and reset itself. Upon reboot, it is tied to your account.

The person on the phone did it for me. I don't understand why they did it for free FOR me on the phone but when I went into the store they wanted 20 bucks to do it.

I'm thinking about buying this, allows you to reboot the phone w/o having to remove the Batt cover.

If you have palm OS there is software that will do a soft reset. No need to use the reset button.

700W Winblows Mobile. I don't know of software that would do it. Of course when you have to do a soft reset you can't get to the application cause the os is locked up. Then it's time for the button!

They really are f'ing scam artists. I also learned my lesson to always buy insurance on the phone. They are so expensive to buy without a contract.
