    Question Monitor "software pwr button"

The quick quesiton: Is there any software that replicates or uses the energy star features to replicate a monitor power button? IE a desktop or systray icon, you click it and it goes directly into energy star mode (or similar) instead of having to wait the predetermined inactivity period. So I could click it and the monitor would power down and when i move the mouse or hit a key it would power back up.

    Details:
I have a fairly new monitor (It is about 3-4 months old) and the power button is broken on it. It worked fine until about a month ago and when I tried to cut it off, the button pushed in but nothing happend. I had already and still have it set up with energy star settings to power down after 10 mins of inactivity anyway. But sometimes it is annoying to have it on since the desk is almost right next to my bed and when I am trying to goto sleep sometimes waiting the 5 mins for the screensaver to come on (SETI) and 10 mins for it to cut off seems to take forever (no I don't want to change it to cut off every minute or decrease the 10 mins in anyway). So I don't want to try to have this fixed under warranty for the sole purpose of the energy star thing being able to power it down and I would rather use that then be without a monitor for a couple weeks. Anyway any info is appreciated

    Thanks,
    -Josh

Tell me if this works :-) This will turn it off completely. I can change it to just go into low power mode if you wish. Let me know.

Very nice... That's exactly what I was talking about. Thanks a million InFix. I wanted it to power off like it does, the reason I said power down is because it cuts off, but the LED blinks like if you shutdown the computer but leave the monitor on, which is what it does anyway in energy star mode. Works perfectly, no need to change it!

    Thanks again,

infix... can you add some features to that program? like:

--make it run in the sys tray
--have it setup like an alarm clock if the user chooses
--have it load winamp when the alarm goes off with a predetermined playlist or random mp3
--have it gradually increase volume over a specified period of time (this feature enabled when the winamp feature is enabled)
--have it load your favorite daily morning webpages when monitors wake up (weather, cnn etc)

if you can do that i'll give you $10 paypal... most likely alot of other people will too...

i need a good alarm clock like that

If you go hunt around on the web in the usual places, you'll find software with all those features.
A friend of mine used to use his PC as his alarm clock to do all that.
I dont remember what the software was called, nor does he, but it was shareware, so give tucows a go.
