In lew of not yet starting my carpc project, I took on a cool little thing I had seen online-a laptop converted into a photo album. Armed with an old Dell Inspiron 7500 with a broken hinge, I got to work. I essentially framed a surrounding for the laptop itself out of mdf, hinged a frame to the top of it, and flipped the screen around. It was bulky, heavy, and not the look I wanted. So recently, I decided to dust off the frame and try again. This time i started by tearing apart the laptop and removing everything deemed unnecessary-keypad, mouse, sound card, modem, expansion slots, battery, cd all went. This left me with just the motherboard, hard drive, and power button. I also added a usb wireless adaptor so I could easily add images. I was able to make an aluminum chasis for it from some parts at work and everything fits nicely inside. It attaches to the back of a nice black wooden frame and is only about 2" deep now. Regarding software, it's running win 2000 on a 12gb hard drive and I just finished installing remote access software in case i need to alter anything and I've currently got a standard slideshow, the serenescene aquarium screensaver and the electric sheep screensaver. Don't have a camera handy now but i'll take pics when I get a chance this weekend.
