My car is 190.3" long, her truck is longer than mine by at least a foot.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Tacoma
the tacoma (95-04) went anywhere from 180.5" to 202.9", depending on the trim level/year/options. Hers happens to be extended cap, have the larger, heavy 4wd tranny, and seems to be a hybrid offroad model.
the newer models go from 190-221"

Of course, thats all wiki, which is known to have mistakes. Hers is longer than my car, but hers always has seemed to look larger than most tacomas.
At any rate, much of the transportation i do is of client computers. They wouldnt fare well in the back of a pickup- I'd need a locking cover to keep them in there, and a cloth bed to keep them from getting scratched, then i'd need a way to keep them from banging around, and i'd have to keep the water out. Unfortunately a truck just isnt my ideal working vehicle.
To be honest, I dont think Anything is my ideal working vehicle.

I think I saw an 87 tacoma in the paper the other day. I'll have to take another look tomorrow- but I though they werent being made in the us until 96ish, and werent called tacomas before then? Maybe I should go check it out this next weekend.

As far as I know, they were just called the Toyota Pickup...

I tried to find a wiki on this nissan versa, and couldnt. Is it a new release? (06 and newer only?) because if thats the case, that is why its out of my price range... new cars are far too expensive.
yes the versa is a new model. It's not a bad price for 12,000. you could always finance it.

Financing means a car payment, which means delaying moving. I'm looking to buy a condo, not rent my whole life... getting myself roped into a car payment isnt really want I want to do.

As you said your looking to keep this car for 10 years. Finding a used car that's under 5g and having it be reliable for 10 years is gonna be difficult.

I am looking for something with a timing CHAIN rather than a belt. Changing belts sucks, and its expensive if you have a dealer do it. Maximas have chains, so do a lot of the 2002+ 4 cylinder Toyota engines (scions)

Does anyone else know of a good car with a chain, besides the Series II 3800 engine found in GM's?

hehe, tacomas have chains. I would also like to avoid a belt- if it snapped, my reaction would be to turn the key again- wrecking the engine.

I do realize that 5g for 10 years is stretching it- but its not like I don't plan on maintaining it... My boss's last car required less than $300 in parts and labor in the 12 years he owned it- since then he's given it to his kid, who hasn't put any money into it yet.
Granted he paid about 8 grand for it, and it was only 3 years old- that same 8 grand would be closer to 12 these days, but I'd never manage that.
He, however, might be putting some money towards this car- because last night the car I was driving crapped out on me and ruined my night/day.(not my car, but the same make/model and 3 years newer)
    We'll see on that front.

Bossman made mention to a company car today- if that happens i'll wind up looking for something small and fun anyway.
