Hey guys I'm looking for a music box type device to play a song that I recorded (so I'll have to load it . . .) I'm looking at a run of about a dozen or so. Any ideas?
I was thinking about a cheap mp3 player + speakers with some sort of mechanical connection to the play button, however I'm guessing that the battery wouldn't last very long with the player always powered up.

I think ratshack sells some "kits" for this. Or at least they did when I worked there. It would be cheaper to use those than manufacture a PCB. Believe me I know.
Also, used furbies are awesome. There is a lot of documentation on hacking a furby or a talking elmo. probably ebay them really cheap. The speakers arent great but the storage is there, and you can hack the audio output really easily.

Only poblem is I cant find any sites that show how to interface with the main chip... I know it exists, and there was even some contest givinf away a couple hundred bucks to the person who could make Furby speak randomly.

You might be able to go the way of the talking elmo BOOK. Remeber the "Who wants to die" elmo thing a while ago? Well there is proof they can be reprogrammed.

Radio Shack voice recorder Works well, I put the speaker in an enclosure (bell glued to cabinet) and it sounds pretty darn decent.
