I love using Google for research, thats getting harder now, a lot of times
google will stop me and say

" We're sorry...

... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.

and thats only after 11 pages of search results, whats up with that

Looks like a pop-up add to me. (Guess not possible on GE?)
They obviously want you to go to those links.
That "Google" image does not look anything like the "real" image.

This is fake Google. The links to the spyware checker and crap are possibly malicious.

Look at the real google image/logo. The font is totally different. And guess what, no TM on the logo?

Error is real and it's been around for a while.
I got it few times with Google search bar in FireFox (top-right corner not google toolbar).
Updating search plugin seemed to fix and never came back.
