    Downloading movies

I've created a facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7614646545 as a petiton to show a demand for free downloading of movies, while making sure the actors, writers, etc. get paid.

If you like free flicks, and agree those who work on them deserve to be compensated, please join.

There is one severe flaw in your logic.
If people download movies for free, then there is no revenue from the movie to insure that the writers, actors and other people who helped create the film get paid. You can't get paid if people don't buy your product.

hrmmm - it's facebook...from what I remember, only those with an .edu email address could register on facebook...has that changed?

Seems like an awful strange place to post a petition....esp. considering most people want as many ppl as possible to sign a petition.

Darque, it's sponsor driven. As a film maker myself, I've rallied more than 1,100 titles willing to be part of the initial catalogue because the creative teams behind them know they'll be compensated by advertisers sponsoring the downloads. I've also met with media buyers and ad companies, and the response has been "show us there'll be an audience, and we're on board". Hence the petition.

And no, you don't need a .edu email to be on facebook. There are tens of millions of people on facebook, which is why I created the petition there. The ref in the link was simply a reference variable (an ampersand, &, links a variable into a url) and the 'mf' lets facebook know the group is about movies and film.

edit: I received an infraction for posting a facebook link to a group that costs nothing to join, nor charges any money for anything?

Bingo Except focusing on sponsors, not donations.

For the sponsors, it's cheaper than buying a TV ad (which get ignored by TiVo and other recorded-TV watchers - and most people watching with the commercials in either click away or go to the fridge, bathroom, etc.)

When the site opens, membership will be by invitation only - similar to gmail. But those joining the petition will receive invitations.
