It must be fake. Think about it. A laptop hot enough to cause a blister the next day would cause some SERIOUS pain as it happened, especially considering what was burnt. And there's no way a laptop could generate that kind of head unless there was a serious battery problem.

And the fact that he supposedly burned himself even though he was wearing pants and underwear? Sounds pretty unbelievable to me...

Well, I don't know about the burning either, but pants do not help at all. When my Inspiron 8100 is on my lap it doesn't stay there very long.. That sucker gets hot even when I'm wearing thick jeans or pants..

It is a bit fishy that he didn't notice before the damage was done.. Some people are more sensitive to heat than others.

I think the maxim about boiling frogs applies here. Sure, if the temperature difference is really hot when he first set it in his lap, of course he'd notice. But since it occured over the course of an hour or so, he might not have. Also keep in mind that the burns he suffered weren't very serious.

I have found cnn to be the worst when it comes to tech news, they could also be the worst at all news but I don't pay any attention to other news to know. I made the mistake of telling a customer that 3com wasn't going to produce networking hardware after reading it in a CNN story and I also remember them telling that HP wasn't going to produce scanners anymore, I bought a hp scanner a couple years after that story. But I did know someone with a cheap gateway laptop that burned a hole in a desk, he called up gate way and demanded a refund and sent that laptop back real quick.
