It takes forever to copy even the smallest file. And no the HD line is not full, the CPU is not being taxed, plenty of free RAM, it just takes forever. From the drive to the same drive (not a flash drive or USB anything, actual SATA into mobo).

Just a quick google will show you I am not crazy.

There are just way too many checking operations going on before the file starts to be transfered to make sure you arent a moron. For instance, after the box starts moving with the "time remaining" it still takes longer but not much longer on my new vista machine than my P4 with XP. This is ok for transfering 1 10Gb file. But transfering 10Gb's worth of 500Kb and 2Mb files, is a royal pain in the *** on vista, and the lower equipped P4 with XP and a slower more full HD, does it much much faster.

The file copy problem is supposedly fixed in SP1.

Well my line 6 podxt, podx3 live, guitarport, vetta ii, then my cheap behringer usb , psp with psplink , logitech webcam ( the vista drivers work but I dont get all the functionality ) , a few games wont install for some reason etc.

Well line 6 is developing drvers for their hardware so once they do that Ill maybe switch back to vista.

But in windows xp I can install unsigned drivers, I can't in vista, so I blame vista.

running vista ultimate on home pc and have a vista business laptop. ZERO problems.
I run vmware with no issues at all. I have hardware that IS suppose to be XP compatible and its not, but works perfectly on both vista machines. It just comes down to pebkac.

my issues and most others with vista have nothing to do with pebkac. I even beta'd the damn thing!

Well I got XP running on this new machine. Turns out that if you make a "Applications and Drivers" CD for this machine, it contains the XP drivers so that was a big help.

I do have some sad news to report, however. It appears that the failure happened while I was doing a scheduled secure delete of the empty space on the drive that contained all my media.

Remember how they used to tell you not to turn off you machine when it was writing to the hard drive? 4 years of Music, Movies, Software, Documents, and Pictures went : poof! : I think I have backup DVDs of the pics and docs, but most of the music and all of the movies and software is gone. Nothing I can't recover from, though. I hope.
