If you don't mind the space, the best way is not to rip the DVD but image it to an ISO, then mount it in a virtual DVD player, and open it as a device in Media Player Classic, or any other player.
No decryption, no compression, just like the real thing...
If there is only one good thing on the DVD that doesn't benefit for the DVD menu, then make a single Divx.avi

Umm, well to be quite honest with you I have no idea what any of that means
However i will (inserts Search smiley here).>> "Image to an ISO" and "mount to virtual DVD player" is all Greek language to me. Oh, and no, space is no prob. these are for the trips we take on the road. (Keeps the girls occupied for a minute). I'm just about to start my headrest monitor install (props to Enforcer on his) and wanted to get the video part up and going first.

Make an image of the disc using Nero or something. Save the image as an *.iso file. Then get Daemon Tools to create a few virtual drives. Mount the iso using that virtual drive. It will now appear as a real DVD in whatever drive letter you gave it. Then open any software DVD player you wish to use and the DVD will play as real...
